When The Family Comes To Town (and other summer fun)

My family came to visit!!!!!  It was a pretty big deal.  We have been talking about it now for three years and we finally set a date.  My parents have been here, but my brother and his family haven't been able to make it.  So the days leading up to their arrival were filled with some pretty giddy emotions on my part!

We spend Saturday afternoon swimming and I forgot my camera, of course.  (Side note: I upgraded to a better phone and have officially started using that as my camera so I will hopefully get more pictures now!)

Saturday after supper we had planned to take them to Wicker Park since it's awesome but it rained and rained and rained.  So we played some Apples to Apples and blabbed around the table.  My very favorite part of this picture is my niece wearing grandpa's glasses.  I think she just looks like a little old lady and it cracks me up every time I see it!

Sunday morning before church picture.  Coulda turned out way worse:)

When they left after an early Sunday supper, sadness ensued.  It was way too short but it was oh so sweet.

Other than that we have just been enjoying the beautiful weather.  This little pool is perfect for Summer.  She loves the idea of swimming but the reality of it freaks her out and she just sits on the side in her cute little puddle jumper.  So she likes to use this pool where she can get wet and play in the water without having to actually swim.  Sawyer doesn't even like the idea of swimming.  To set him in the pool is to torture him.  At least that's what it sounds like.

We are loving this season of life!

Good Ole Jumbo Days

Well after we got home from Alabama, I was ready to stay put for a little while.  But that little while didn't last quite as long as we thought it might.  Just about three days is all.  I found out that due to committee members being too spread thin with their duties, this could be the last year that my hometown puts on a festival, affectionately know as Jumbo Days.

Here's a little backstory for you:  The first year we were married, Jumbo Days weekend came and it was kind of an unexpected harsh reminder to me that I didn't live there anymore.  And I cried.  And cried and cried.  And decided that we would for sure make the occasional visit back on Jumbo Days weekend.  The next year I was in the hospital having Summer and the one after that we were camping with Danny's family.  Typically the festival is on Memorial Day weekend, which is when we were in Alabama this year.  But for some reason this year was different.  So that combined with the fact that it's possibly the last one spurred me to go!  And Danny decided to join in the fun which made me happy:)

People would jokingly ask if we came back just for the festival and I would tell them YES!  Not jokingly of course!  I got to go on the ferris wheel, which is the only ride I can handle and even that's a little iffy.  But it was great!  And riding with my niece was really fun- she's just so grown up and mature these days.

Summer got to take a couple rides too.  She loved them!

And then my parents took the kids home while we stayed and listened to the gospel concert.

Saturday morning was parade day!  It's a very short parade, but a parade nonetheless.  Summer loved the candy part of it.

The sirens however, she was not a fan of.  And I actually had a picture of her very sad face on here but I just didn't have the heart to publish it!

Sawyer got to just chill and get a stroller ride the whole time so Jumbo Days suited him well.

The rest of the weekend was filled with cousins, baby turkeys, water balloons, and bubbles.

A glorious family filled evening!

Oh and we tried a few of my old dresses on Summer.

It was funny, but they sure didn't made the cut to go in her permanent wardrobe!

And now this weekend we have no road trips planned.  Phew!

The Shirt

So this shirt.  I wore it last week for Summer's birthday party.  I am wearing it today as well, but that's not the point right now.

I also wore it last year for Summer's first birthday party.

And ALSO for my niece's first birthday party.

You guys?  My niece is going to be NINE years old in just one month.  I have learned two things by looking at these pictures.

1.)  I get stuck in a rut wearing the same outfit.

2.)  Maybe it's time for some new clothes!!
